In memoriam This week, with great sadness, the Canadian Abilities Foundation (CAF) announced the passing of its CEO and founder, Raymond Cohen. In recent months, Raymond had been bravely struggling through a heavy regimen of treatments for a hidden disability that had affected his health for many years. In March of this year, his condition took a sudden turn for the worse. Raymond was the publisher of Abilities, Canada’s lifestyle magazine for people with disabilities. That is how most of us as readers came to know him. After all, he has shared his life with us four times a year through Abilities magazine since the early nineties. We came to respect his opinions, his editorial talent, his ability to patiently educate us and his determination to champion for one cause after another. As a fellow publisher, I could only admire his tenacity and unstoppable desire to keep publishing despite the challenges we all face in this ever-changing world. He and his team created the online directory Access Guide Canada, built an inspirational web portal (www.abilities.ca) and earned a strong Facebook and Twitter following. It is a legacy to be proud of and a very solid foundation from which the CAF can move forward. During his lifetime, Raymond had a profound effect on many, many people and was a fierce advocate for improving daily life, workplace opportunities and social change for people with disabilities from all walks of life and from every corner of Canada. Cameron Graham, Chair of CAF, and his board remain committed to carry on the work and our publishing team is proud to have been invited by Raymond in the last few weeks of his life to continue his work on Abilities. So it is with humility and a great deal of respect that we accept the challenge and encourage all of you to join us as we begin a new chapter on Raymond’s behalf. Rest in peace my friend, your good work will continue. Please post your tributes on the Facebook page (www.facebook.com/ groups/2384460966/) or make a donation to the CAF in Raymond’s honour at www.abilities.ca.
